Mikael Ericsson cello
Swedish-Czech cellist, born and grown up in a family of musicians in Arvika, Sweden. Started to play the cello with H-E Deckert, continued his studies with E. Blondal-Bengtson (Edsberg Castle and Copenhagen) and finished studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with J. Chuchro. Master classes with G. Fallot (Mont Orford, Canada) and with G. Piatigorsky (Copenhagen). Chamber music studies with K. Lewin (Sweden), F. Beyer, E. Feltz, Chr. Poppen (Germany), with the Melos Quartet (Switzerland) and mainly with J. Vlach in Prague. In 1978 he became, as the first Swede ever, a finalist in the Tchaikowsky Competition in Moscow. In 1980 he won the first prize in the Prague Spring Competition, dedicated to the memory of A. Dvořák, with a special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary Czech work. Awards in competitions for String Quartet (Kroměříž-1983 and Portsmouth-1985). With his wife, Jana Vlachová, he founded in 1977 the String Duo Vlachová-Ericsson and in 1982 a string quartet – New Vlach Quartet (since 1995: Vlach Quartet Prague). Awards for solo recordings and for recordings with the quartet. Member of “Solistes Européens Luxembourg”. Working as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher.
